Matthews NC to Become Community Wildlife Habitat

Matthews NC to Become Community Wildlife Habitat

The Town of Matthews NC is about to embark on campaign to become one of only thirty-five municipalities nationwide that are certified Community Wildlife Habitats.  This certification is earned from the National Wildlife Federation.  The Matthews campaign will be called “Matthews Naturally”.Matthews NC Wildlife

The “Matthews Naturally” campaign will be led by HAWK, the local chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation.  The entire town, including town government, schools, churches, businesses and homeowners, will work to preserve wildlife and give the animals places for living and raising their young.

Matthews NC will become certified as a Community Wildlife Habitat by earning 450 points toward goals that include a certain number of homeowner Backyard Wildlife Habitats, Schoolyard Wildlife Habitats, educational programs, environmental projects and environmental websites.  HAWK members note that the town already has earned a number of points toward the certification as there are a number of homeowners who have Backyard Wildlife Habitats already.

Matthews NC Real Estate Market Report—2009

How did the Matthews NC real estate market fare in 2009 and how did it compare with 2008?  This report covers real estate activity within the Matthews town limits, which are entirely within Mecklenburg County.

The 2009 Matthews NC real estate market reflected the market in Charlotte and surrounding areas.  Single family average sales prices were down about ten percent from 2008, an indication that first time home buyers dominated the marketplace.  Sales prices deteriorated even more in the condo/townhome market, dropping by 21%.  2009 also saw fifteen percent fewer homes sold in Matthews.  Time on the market increased for Matthews sellers with days on market up 36% for single family homes and up 75% for condominiums and townhomes.
