Sun Valley High School in Indian Trail NC is located in the Sun Valley Schools complex with Shiloh Elementary, Sun Valley Middle School and Sun Valley Elementary School.  Opened in 1961, Sun Valley High is one of the older schools in the Union County NC public system.  Sun Valley High School serves grades nine through twelve.  Sun Valley Middle School students feed into Sun Valley High School.  Feeder elementaries for the school are Indian Trail Elementary, Rocky River Elementary (partial), Sardis Elementary (partial), Porter Ridge (partial), Shiloh Elementary, and Sun Valley Elementary.

Approximately 1300 students currently attend the school.  Average class sizes range from 20 to 27 students.

Cuthbertson High School, Union County’s newest high school, shares a campus with Cuthbertson Middle School.  Cuthbertson High School serves neighborhoods in Waxhaw NC and Wesley Chapel NC.

Cuthbertson High School was named an Honor School of Excellence for the 2009-2010 school year, the first high school in Union County to earn the designation after only one year of operation.  Cuthbertson is a Union County Public Schools International School.  To earn this designation, the school had to receive 75 points on a checklist that includes hosting cultural awareness events, foreign language study, travel and community service.

In May 2011, Cuthbertson’s principal was named North Carolina Principal of the Year and one of its teachers was named Union County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.
